Fiscal Responsibility (Top Priority)

Saanich residents expect their municipal government to manage public money carefully, transparently, and with discipline. Too often, taxpayers feel that spending decisions are driven by new ideas and expansions rather than a focus on core services and long-term affordability.

I believe Council’s first responsibility is to respect taxpayers. That means prioritizing essential infrastructure and services, controlling spending growth, and ensuring every dollar delivers clear value to the community.

Tax increases should never be the default answer. Before raising taxes, Council should be required to demonstrate that all efficiencies have been explored and that spending is aligned with core priorities.

Transportation That Works for Everyone

Transportation shouldn't be about choosing winners and losers. It should be about helping everyone get where they need to go safely and efficiently.

One of the reasons I became involved in local politics was because I saw transportation decisions being made that, in many cases, increased congestion, removed road capacity, and made it more difficult for residents, businesses, and emergency services to move around our community.

As an avid cyclist, I strongly support safe cycling infrastructure and active transportation. But I also believe transportation planning must work for everyone—including pedestrians, transit users, drivers, businesses, seniors, and emergency services.

We need to move beyond the idea that improving one mode of transportation requires making another less effective. With thoughtful planning, data-driven decisions, and meaningful public consultation, we can build a transportation network that is safer, more efficient, and better connected.

Transportation projects should be evaluated based on measurable results. If a project improves safety, reduces congestion, and serves the broader community, it deserves support. If it creates unintended consequences, we should be willing to review it, learn from it, and make improvements.

Residents expect practical solutions—not ideology.

My Priorities

• Improve traffic flow and reduce unnecessary congestion.
• Design transportation infrastructure that safely accommodates all road users.
• Base transportation decisions on evidence, data, and real-world results.
• Ensure emergency services, businesses, and residents can move efficiently throughout Saanich.
• Invest in roads, transit, cycling, and walking infrastructure in a balanced and practical way.
• Listen to residents before major transportation changes are made and evaluate projects after implementation.

Responsible Growth & Housing

Saanich is changing faster than many residents ever expected.

The pace of growth has placed increasing pressure on our roads, parks, recreation facilities, utilities, emergency services, schools, and neighbourhoods. Many residents also feel that recent provincial legislation has reduced the ability of local communities to have meaningful input into decisions that directly affect where they live.

I share those concerns.

Growth should improve our community—not diminish the qualities that make people want to live here in the first place.

We need to carefully consider not only how many homes are built, but whether our infrastructure, services, transportation network, and community amenities can support that growth. If we fail to do that, we risk reducing the quality of life that has made Saanich one of Canada's most desirable places to live.

We also have a responsibility to protect our farmland, green spaces, urban forests, established neighbourhoods, and village centres. Once they're gone, they are gone forever.  

I believe residents deserve to be heard. While municipalities must work within provincial legislation, Council still has an important role in advocating for local priorities, making thoughtful planning decisions, and ensuring growth reflects the long-term interests of our community.

My Priorities

• Slow the pace of growth until infrastructure can keep up.
• Put roads, utilities, parks, and public services ahead of unchecked development.
• Protect established neighbourhoods, farmland, green space, and Saanich's village character.
• Give residents a meaningful voice in planning decisions.
• Ensure every major development is evaluated based on its long-term impact on our community.

Public Safety & Community Well-Being

Residents deserve to feel safe in their homes, neighbourhoods, parks, and public spaces. Public safety depends on effective enforcement, prevention, and support services working together.

• Support effective policing and emergency response services
• Address public disorder and safety concerns in parks and public areas
• Strengthen community-based prevention and outreach programs
• Keep public spaces safe, clean, and accessible

Accountable & Transparent Government

Trust is earned through openness, accountability, and honest communication.

One of the main reasons I decided to run for Council is because I believe residents deserve a local government that is accessible, transparent, and responsive to the people it serves.

Over the past few years, I've attended Council meetings, spoken before Council, and had countless conversations with residents across Saanich. While opinions differ on many issues, one message has been remarkably consistent: people want a Council that listens, communicates openly, explains its decisions, and welcomes meaningful public participation.

Public engagement should never be treated as a box to check. It should be a genuine opportunity for residents to share ideas, ask questions, and help shape the future of our community. Good decisions are made when people are informed early, consulted respectfully, and know their input has been genuinely considered.

I also believe accountability means asking difficult questions, taking the time to understand the facts, and making decisions based on evidence—not assumptions. Council has a responsibility to be transparent in how public money is spent and accountable for the decisions it makes on behalf of taxpayers.

For me, transparency isn't just about making information available—it's about making it understandable. Residents shouldn't have to search through lengthy reports or technical documents to understand decisions that affect their neighbourhoods and their tax dollars.

If elected, I will work to build trust by being accessible, prepared, and accountable. I will listen respectfully, communicate honestly, and always remember that Council works for the people of Saanich.
